Studio Notes

Green With Envy

I spent the afternoon with these little chunks of deliciousness!

They were labelled as Aventurine, but the owner of the antique shop where I bought them thought they might be Chrysoprase.

Well… that was all the encouragement I needed to inspect them further.

With LED torch in hand, I peered down drill holes, looking for translucency, studying inclusions, turning them every which way to see how they played with light.

The longer I studied them, I realised something…

The more I learn about gemstones, the less willing I am to make assumptions.

My best guess is still Aventurine.

But, if I want certainty I need to learn how to test gemstones properly, so that's exactly what I'm going to do.

Gemology course here I come!

Because around here…

Nothing earns its place by accident.
