The Sacrifice of a Pearl
9 July 2026
We talk about a pearl that sacrificed its life to confirm my instincts.
I explain the white centre where the nucleus was implanted into a black-lipped oyster, and how the oyster coats it with thousands of microscopic layers of nacre, like the layers of an onion.
These layers create the incredible lustre of Tahitian pearls, from soft silvers to iridescent peacock green, aubergine and blue.
