Natural gemstones & 14K Gold Filled
The materials matter. Especially the ones you barely notice.
Natural gemstones sit at the centre of Strawberry Studio. I am drawn to them because of their differences rather than despite them.
Variations in colour. Unexpected markings. Inclusions. Changes in transparency. Texture. The subtle shift from one bead to the next.
These aren't imperfections that need to be engineered away. They are part of the story of a natural material. No two stones are exactly alike. I don't want them to be.
Increasingly, I'm interested not only in what a gemstone looks like, but in understanding what I'm actually working with. Sometimes that means examining a stone under magnification. Sometimes it means learning about its structure, its formation or the characteristics that help identify it. And sometimes it simply means looking long enough to notice something I didn't see the first time. That curiosity has become as much a part of Strawberry Studio as making the jewellery itself.
The details you may never notice
The smallest components receive the same consideration. Strawberry Studio pieces are finished predominantly with 14K Gold Filled components.
Gold Filled is different from conventional gold plating. Rather than an extremely thin coating of gold being applied to the surface, Gold Filled material contains a much thicker layer of real gold mechanically bonded to a base metal. That makes it considerably more suited to regular wear than conventional gold plating.
I chose 14K Gold Filled deliberately. Partly for its balance of durability and wearability. But also because of colour. I preferred the quieter warmth of 14K beside natural gemstones. It doesn't compete with them. It simply belongs alongside them.
Clasps. Jump rings. Crimps. Chain. Tiny findings that may never consciously register when the finished necklace is worn. They still matter.
Because often — quality is found in the details no one notices.
